VELVET EMBOSSING WITH COLOR
1 session – Julia Follett
Enjoy learning how to emboss velvet. Add extra effects and dimension by using color as you emboss a velvet scarf. This technique can be used for clothing, accessories, or home dec. Stamps will be provided or bring your favorite ones. Scarf lengths of velvet available to purchase in many colors. The final effect is stunning and makes a wonderful gift!

ROMAN SHADES
1 session - Sheri Nadeau
Learn how to make Roman Shades. This class will lead you through the steps to make Roman Shades for all your window needs! You will learn the steps from cutting, sewing, and mounting the shade. Pick your favorite home dec fabric or use some of the great quilt fabrics for your project. Have your shade measurements with you when signing up (must decide if you want to mount shade inside the frame or outside of it). Instructor will provide the lining fabric, rings, and cord. Materials fee $10.

BLOCK OF THE MONTH

Batik Block of the Month kits are available the 2nd Saturday of the month, starting 1/14/2012 during special shop hours from 8:30-9:30am. At this time we will be offering a SPECIAL MYSTERY SALE for BOM participants only. Kits may also be picked up anytime after the initial release or mailed. Credit card authorization required.

CELESTIAL PORTRAIT COURSE
3 sessions – Susan Carlson
Learn the basics of creating a fabric-collaged portrait in a fun and no-pressure “cutting loose” way. Create a personified sun’s or moon’s face using Susan’s designs as a starting point. Class moves in a step-by-step fashion, with each student adding their own unique touches in the process.

BEGINNING QUILTING
6 sessions - Kerin Ferrin
Discover the wonderful world of quilting! Students learn the basic skills of quilt making such as rotary cutting, piecing, borders, quilting, binding, and labeling as they construct a charming Rail Fence wall hanging using “Start Quilting With Alex Anderson.” Bernina sewing machines available during class.

This hands-on class covers sewing basics including pattern and fabric selection, pattern layout and pinning, cutting, fitting, interfacing, construction techniques, seam finishes and more. Students will complete a garment and should have some previous experience with their sewing machine. Bernina sewing machines available for class.

LITTLE BLACK DRESS
3 sessions – Margi Varnum
Students will learn how to fit a classic dress that will be very versatile. You will be able to make it with long or short sleeves, or sleeveless. The skirt can be long or short, straight, full or in between. Have one pattern that can be used for all seasons and all occasions, and made up in many different fabrics.

A PEEK-A-BOO BAG

BASIC SERGING

Afraid of your serger? Basic serger operations are covered during the first class - threading and thread tensions, using stitch length and differential feed and problem solving. In the second class the serger is used for an actual project. Any brand serger welcome!

ENGLISH PAPER PIECING

Learn the technique of English paper piecing...a great hand work travel project and a way to piece difficult, repetitive shapes. Creative use of fabrics will be discussed and also the scrap look.

DECORATIVE SERGING

Ever wonder what else your serger can do? Serging has been traditionally used for sewing seams, preventing raveling and for rolled hems. Decorative serging revolutionizes your use of the serger with many decorative techniques. Learn how to make your own embellished cording, attach trims and beads and custom tassels are among some of the fun things you will learn! This is open to all brands of sergers.

ONE FOR ALL SEASONS TABLE RUNNER
1 session – Brenda Hall
Judy Neimeyer, an internationally recognized quilt pattern designer, has expanded upon an already simple, elegant quilting technique, known as foundation paper-piecing that allows quilters of any level to create elegant quilts. You'll learn about fast and easy cutting techniques, stacking techniques, floating points, and curved piecing. Join Brenda, a certified instructor of Judy's techniques, to make this dramatic table runner. Register for this class by mid-February to reserve a spot and prepare for class.
