VELVET EMBOSSING WITH COLOR
1 session – Julia Follett
Add extra effects and dimension by using color as you
emboss a velvet scarf. This technique can be used for
clothing, accessories, or home dec. Stamps will be
provided or bring your favorite ones. Scarf lengths of
velvet available to purchase in many colors. The final
effect is stunning and makes a wonderful gift!

BERNINA CLUB
1st session – Kay Hoffman
Enjoy learning about the Bernina Cutwork Accessory
and Software. Create gorgeous shapes for embellishment,
explore infinite possibilities of reverse appliqué, or add
delicate edgings and eyelets with ease. Bernina
Cutwork Accessory eliminates tedious hand cutting of
appliqué shapes, unusual patchwork pieces, cutwork
elements, edgings and more!

BERNINA DESIGNER PLUS SOFTWARE CLASS
1st of 3 sessions – Marlee Carter
Variegated Thread Designs: Use the new tools in V6 to
create designs for using your variegated thread. These
designs have a lot of punch in a shorter stitching time.
V5 users can also do this.

BEGINNING QUILTING
5 sessions - Kerin Ferrin
Discover the wonderful world of quilting! Students learn
the basic skills of quiltmaking such as rotary cutting,
piecing, borders, quilting, binding, and labeling as they
construct a charming Rail Fence wallhanging using
“Start Quilting With Alex Anderson.” Bernina sewing
machines available during class.

OPEN SEWING

This class is for anyone who wants help with any
sewing project. Come have fun and learn valuable
sewing tips from the experts! Please call to register by
noon the day before class.

BEGINNING SEWING AND BEYOND
5 or 2 sessions – Carla Clarke
This hands-on class covers sewing basics including
pattern and fabric selection, pattern layout and pinning,
cutting, fitting, interfacing, construction techniques,
seam finishes and more. Students will complete a
garment and should have some previous experience
with their sewing machine. (Bernina sewing machines
available during class.)

BASIC SERGING
2 sessions-Julia Follett
Afraid of your serger? Basic serger operations are
covered during the first class - threading and thread
tensions, using stitch length and differential feed and
problem solving. In the second class the serger is used
for an actual project. Students should leave the class
confidently using their own serger.- any brand serger!

SUSAN CARLSON PORTRAIT COURSE
3 sessions – Susan Carlson
Learn the basics of creating a fabric collage portrait.
Susan has devised a no-pressure “cutting loose”
approach creating a personified sun's face. Each
student will begin with the same design, learning how
to create a face step-by-step, adding their own unique
touches in the process. Course runs one day a month
for three months, allowing time to work at home before
returning for feed-back and further instruction. See

OPEN EMBROIDERY STUDIO

Come to OPEN EMBROIDERY STUDIO with any
embroidery project that is challenging you or if you just
want to get started embroidering! Please register by the
Friday before class.

NEW YORK BEAUTY/MARINER’S COMPASS
1 session – Cheri Wilkins
Complete a small wall hanging or pillow top, or get
started on a series of blocks that can be used in a quilt.
Learn several methods for handling the curves of a
Beauty or Compass block. Use brilliant, high-contrast
colors to produce a very dramatic look. Experience
with Paper Piecing helpful, but not necessary, as there will
be a short review of paper piecing at the start of the class.

ROMAN SHADES
1 session - Sheri Nadeau
Learn how to make Roman Shades. This class will lead
you through the steps to make Roman Shades for all
your window needs! You will learn the steps from
cutting, sewing, and mounting the shade. Pick your
favorite home dec fabric or use some of the great quilt
fabrics for your project. Have your shade measurements
with you when signing up (must decide if you want to
mount shade inside the frame or outside of it).
Instructor will provide the lining fabric, rings, and cord.
Materials fee $10.

BEYOND BEGINNING QUILTING
6 sessions
This class is for confident beginners and will review
rotary cutting, piecing, borders, quilting, binding, and
labeling while adding new skills to their quilting
repertoire as they construct a Check and Balance quilt
from “Keep Quilting With Alex Anderson.” Bernina
sewing machines available during class.
THURSDAYS, FEB 4th – MAR 11th.

WEEKENDER TOTE
1 session – Anne Bishop
Enjoy making this tote by Penny Sturges from the new
Kaffe Fassett or Phillip Jacobs Design Rolls, batik “Bali
Pops” or from all your wonderful scraps. Quick and
easy strips embellished with decorative stitching if you
like. See the totes in the online gallery or at the shop.

BERNINA CLUB
2nd session – Carla Clarke
Learn about the Bernina Pintucking Feet (#30-#34)
and the Piping Foot #38. Pintucking feet make it a
breeze to sew exactly parallel rows of tucks for fabrics
ranging from very fine to heavy. Use the Piping Foot for
straight or curved piping applications and edge
stitching along bulky trims such as webbing and
strapping. This class is a lecture demo with detailed
handouts included.

BERNINA DESIGNER PLUS SOFTWARE CLASS
2nd of 3 sessions – Marlee Carter
Hearts Galore: Create multiple hearts easily using
Corel Draw as the starting point. See how easy it is to
create a group of related designs but all different. These
would make lovely centers for an Irish Chain quilt’s
block centers.

ONE-PIECE PAPER PIECING
1 session – Cheri Wilkins
Learn a new method of paper piecing using a one-piece
paper foundation and a simple, quick folding & sewing
technique. Saves time, improves accuracy, and results
in a complete block, without sewing individual pieces
together! You will be amazed at how easily you can
complete some very complex blocks. Suitable for
beginners or experienced paper-piecers.

IT FITS! THE CLASSIC SHIRT
3 sessions – Margi Varnum
Students will learn to make a collar with a collar band,a double yoke, French cuffs and a regular barrel cuffs,sleeve plackets, hidden buttonhole front placket, flatfell seams and rolled hems. Add many options to personalize your shirt with pleats, gathers, full sleeves,
narrow sleeves, different collars. And it will fit!

Bernina Stitch Regulator Workshop. Come play with
the Bernina Stitch Regulator. Bring your project or we
have one for you. Learn tips for success with various
decorative threads.

BRAID EMBELLISHED TABLE TOPPER OR TOTE

Learn this simple braid technique to add interest to your
projects. Add it to a tote, purse, jacket cuff, or table
runner and go from simple to snazzy - let your imagination

3rd of 3 sessions - Marlee Carter
Buttonholes in Embroidery? Yes, and it couldn’t be
easier. Digitize an over the door Banner with seasonal
additions as you learn how to have the embroidery
machine create buttonholes for quilting and garments.

IMPROVISATIONAL QUILTING
WITH JAPANESE FABRICS
1 session - Cheri Wilkins
Leave your preconceived ideas about color and perfect
piecing at home. Work with unusual fabrics, cut without
templates, experience new and sometimes surprising
color combinations to create a small quilt top or a
block that may be completely different from your
expectations. Although the focus is on using antique
Japanese fabrics (available at Portsmouth Fabric Co.)
this creative technique can be used with almost any
fabric combination.
SATURDAY, MAR 20th.

FABRIC IMAGES/PORTRAITS
2 sessions – Susan Carlson
Create an image using Susan's innovative layering/
collage method. Class includes a short slide show of
examples pertaining to choice of class. Individual
design, fabric selection, construction, borders, and
quilting will be discussed
